Mad Cobra Arrested For Illegal Firearm and Cocaine Possession

Updated: Aug 9, 2023

Mad Cobra, the well-known dancehall artiste whose real name is Ewart Everton Brown, has been apprehended on charges of possessing an illegal firearm and cocaine. The incident occurred during a routine traffic stop in Florence County, South Carolina, where authorities discovered two kilograms of cocaine in his Black BMW SUV. Alongside the drugs, they also found a 9mm Beretta, leading to serious charges of cocaine trafficking and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

The 55-year-old artiste, originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was driving above the speed limit when deputies decided to pull him over. Acting on their suspicions of criminal activity, they requested consent from Brown to search his vehicle. Unfortunately, their search unveiled the illicit substances and the firearm, leading to his arrest. Currently, Brown is being held at the Florence County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Mad Cobra was a prominent figure in the dancehall scene during the 1990s, producing hits like "Press Trigger," "Flex," and "Tek Him." Recently, he experienced a resurgence in popularity when his track "Flex" was sampled by American singer-actress Janelle Monae in her latest single, "Lipstick Lover." The song "Flex" had originally gained massive success, reaching number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, securing the number one spot on the Rap Singles chart, and reaching number seven on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, all featured in his major label debut album 'Hard to Wet, Easy to Dry' released under Columbia Records.
