She can make people laugh, command attention on screen and bring characters to life, but behind the bubbly personality of Cho Rasta, is a woman still navigating life's responsibilities and finding the courage to bet on her dreams.

To audiences online, Michelle Richards, popularly known as Cho Rasta, is the outgoing, expressive and entertaining Jamaican creative whose personality makes her hard to overlook. But beyond the comedy, social media presence and growing acting portfolio is a woman whose journey is far more layered than what appears on screen.

Balancing a traditional 9-to-5 with acting and content creation, Cho Rasta is quietly working towards a future where creativity is not just her passion but her full-time reality. She has already taken important steps towards that ambition, from building an audience on TikTok to securing her first lead acting role in Happily Ever Awkward with The LAB Studios.

Yet, as she reveals, the journey is not without its uncertainties. "Outside of the cameras and social media, I'm really just a girl with big dreams who's trying to make something meaningful out of the opportunities life gives her."

And perhaps that is what makes her story worth getting to know.

From TikTok to the Acting Scene

Cho Rasta has been acting for approximately six years, although her interest in performing existed long before she began pursuing it professionally. Her journey took shape on TikTok, where she started creating funny, relatable videos that gradually attracted an audience.

As some of her content went viral, the positive response encouraged her to explore her abilities beyond short-form entertainment and take acting more seriously.

"What started as me simply having fun and entertaining people eventually opened doors to bigger opportunities," she recalled.

One of those opportunities was landing her first lead role in Happily Ever Awkward, a production by The LAB Studios. For Cho Rasta, it was more than another acting credit; it was confirmation that her passion could translate into something bigger.

"I think I started realizing I had something special when people began connecting with my content and recognizing my talent. But landing that lead role really gave me the confidence to believe that I could turn something I've always loved into a successful career."

Although her growing platform places her within the influencer conversation, Cho Rasta prefers to identify as a creative first.

"I'd definitely consider myself a creative first. I love entertaining people, whether it's through acting, comedy, or creating content. Influencing is something that naturally comes with having a platform, but for me, creativity is where it all starts."

It is a distinction that speaks to how she sees her future: not simply as someone with an online following, but as a performer with the freedom to explore different creative possibilities.

Beyond the Bubbly Personality

One of the more interesting revelations about Richards is the contrast between her online personality and her personal experiences.

The confidence and outgoing energy that audiences associate with Cho Rasta do not always reflect how she feels internally. Away from the cameras, she admits to struggling with anxiety, overthinking and insecurities, sometimes finding social situations difficult despite appearing completely comfortable in the spotlight.

"Behind the characters, I'm just a regular girl with big dreams. I actually work a 9-to-5 job while balancing acting and content creation," she shared.

She believes one of the biggest misconceptions people have about her is that her bubbly and outspoken personality means she is naturally confident in every situation.

"I actually struggle with social anxiety and have insecurities about almost everything. There are times when I second-guess myself or feel uncomfortable in certain social situations as well."

Her honesty offers a different perspective on the person behind the entertainment. It also highlights the reality that being comfortable performing for an audience does not necessarily mean being comfortable with every aspect of oneself.

Still, she continues to show up, create and pursue opportunities, refusing to let those personal challenges determine how far she can go.

The Characters She Wants to Become

As an actress, she is interested in exploring roles that take her outside the familiar territory of comedy and relatable characters.

Given complete creative freedom, she would love to portray a complex villain or a woman who appears innocent but has a darker side.

"I think it would be so much fun to play someone who's completely different from my actual personality. Something that really pushes me emotionally and allows people to see a completely different side of my acting," she explained.

Her experiences with The LAB Studios have helped her develop that interest. She specifically credits director Jesane Jackson and the production team for creating an environment that allows actors to feel comfortable, supported and confident in their performances.

"What stands out to me most is how they treat their actors. They create such a welcoming and comfortable environment where you feel valued, supported, and free to express yourself creatively. They know how to bring out the best in you, and that's something I truly appreciate."

It is the kind of creative environment she hopes to experience more of as she continues to develop her craft and take on increasingly challenging roles.

Learning to Bet on Herself

For all her ambitions, Richards understands that building a career in entertainment requires more than talent and opportunity. It also demands difficult decisions, sacrifices and a willingness to embrace uncertainty.

One of the biggest decisions she hopes to make is leaving her 9-to-5 job to dedicate herself entirely to acting and content creation.

"I've always wanted to take that leap of faith, trust my gut, and leave my 9-to-5 job so I can dedicate 100% of my time and energy to acting and content creation."

It is a dream she believes in, but financial stability remains a significant consideration. With responsibilities beyond her creative pursuits, she is conscious that following her passion must also make practical sense.

"I think my biggest challenge right now is finding the courage to bet on myself while still being practical about my future," she admitted.

Whatever the timeline, there is one thing she is certain about: success should never come at the expense of her identity.

"My self-respect and my values. I'm ambitious and I want to be successful, but I never want to reach a point where I feel like I have to lose myself to get there."

For Cho Rasta, how she achieves her goals matters just as much as the goals themselves. She wants to look back on her journey and be proud not only of what she accomplished, but also of the decisions she made along the way.

Bigger Dreams, Beyond Jamaica

When she imagines where she wants to be five years from now, Cho Rastas' ambitions extend well beyond social media recognition.

International acting productions, collaborations with major brands and financial independence are all part of the picture. However, her definition of making it is also deeply connected to family, purpose and the opportunities she hopes to create for others.

"For me, making it wouldn't just be about fame or having millions of followers. It would be about being able to do what I love full-time, being financially comfortable, taking care of the people I love, and knowing that I've created something meaningful."

She also hopes her success will allow her to open doors for other Jamaican creatives, contributing to an industry where more local talent can find opportunities beyond the island.

It is an ambition that reflects a desire to build something meaningful rather than simply become another recognizable face in entertainment.

What's Next for Cho Rasta?

With 2027 approaching, she is looking forward to a year defined by growth, experimentation and new opportunities.

"Growth!" was her immediate response when asked what audiences could expect from her.

More acting, content creation, collaborations and a few surprises are on the horizon. She also intends to challenge herself creatively, step into bigger opportunities and introduce audiences to different sides of her personality and talent.

"I'm really excited about where my career is heading, and I want 2027 to be a year where I challenge myself even more, step into bigger opportunities, and show people different sides of my creativity."

Cho Rasta's journey is still unfolding. She is not yet at the point where she can leave behind the security of a regular job and pursue her creative ambitions without hesitation. She still has doubts, insecurities and decisions to make.

But perhaps that is the most relatable part of her story.

Behind the characters is a woman figuring things out, taking opportunities as they come and learning that pursuing a dream does not mean having every answer before taking the next step.

For Michelle Richards, the goal is bigger than going viral or becoming a familiar face. It is about building a career she can be proud of, staying true to herself and proving that the girl who started making people laugh on TikTok can take that same creativity much further.
