Kevin Downswell Gets Personal on Upcoming Album ‘Joy Is Here’

Jamaican gospel artiste Kevin Downswell turns personal trials, renewed faith and nearly two decades of ministry into his most vulnerable body of work yet, with the 10-track album set for release on October 30, 2026.
Award-winning gospel minister Kevin Downswell is preparing to share one of the most personal chapters of his musical journey with the release of his highly anticipated album, Joy Is Here, on Friday, October 30.
The 10-track project draws on seasons of uncertainty, disappointment and renewed faith, transforming personal experiences into songs intended to encourage listeners navigating their own journeys towards healing, hope and joy.
Describing the album as his most revealing work to date, Downswell said, “This is the realest I've ever been in my songs. This is the most vulnerable I've ever been with my tracks, and I think this is the best I've ever written.”
The statement signals a deeply personal direction for the minister, whose music has consistently centred on faith, perseverance and the power of God through life's challenges. With Joy Is Here, he brings those themes into sharper focus, offering listeners a collection shaped by lived experiences and a continued commitment to ministry.
Over a career spanning nearly two decades, Downswell has established himself as one of Jamaica's prominent contemporary gospel voices, earning recognition for songs such as Carry Me, You Make Me Stronger, If It's Not You, Midnight to Victory and Bless Me. His influence extends beyond the recording studio and stage into authorship, mentorship and international ministry.
In 2025, Downswell was awarded the Order of Distinction in the Officer class by the Government of Jamaica in recognition of his contribution. The honour marked another milestone in a career built on using music and ministry to inspire audiences locally and internationally.
Joy Is Here also adds to an established discography that includes Close to You (2008), The Search Continues (2012), All the Way (2017), Realignment – The Live Encounter (2018), Grace Brought Me Here (2023) and The Shift (2023), a live album.
The upcoming release is identified as Downswell's seventh album and fifth studio album, reflecting the evolution of an artiste whose work continues to develop alongside his personal faith and ministry.
Ahead of the album's official release, an exclusive listening session for members of the media was held on October 20, offering an opportunity to experience the project ahead of its wider arrival.
With Joy Is Here, Downswell is positioning the new collection as more than another addition to his catalogue. It is a reflection of the experiences that have shaped him, the faith that continues to sustain him and the belief that joy can emerge even after difficult seasons.
The 10-track album arrives October 30, 2026.
