Dancehall artiste Savour has released his latest single “Blackboard”, offering a nostalgic yet fresh take on the genre’s golden era. Produced by Rule One Music, the track is a horn-laced, laid-back vibe that draws inspiration from the timeless energy of 1990s dancehall while weaving in Savour’s own modern flair.

Born Johovan Gaynor and raised in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, Savour says “Blackboard” is a tribute to one of his early influences—Beenie Man. “I’m a ’90s baby at heart,” he shared. “Beenie Man is a living legend, and his original Blackboard was one of my favourite songs. I wanted to honour that sound while introducing my own style.”

While the newer Dancehall songs are high-energy, fast-paced trap infused production, Blackboard slows things down. Its horn-driven Riddim and take us back to a time when, as Savour puts it, “dancehall did nice.” He adds, “The idea had been in my head for a while. Once the beat came in, it all flowed naturally. Adding the horns felt like magic—it completed the vision.”

The title, too, carries cultural weight. In Jamaican slang, a “blackboard” can imply expression, attention, or playful flirtation. Savour’s interpretation stays tasteful and artistic. “Our women are expressive in their beauty and style,” he explains. “This is just me acknowledging and admiring that.”

Blackboard follows Savour’s earlier single Milk and Honey, which introduced his vibrant and layered sound to audiences. Though still early in his journey, he brings with him mentorship from veterans like Baby Cham and a grounding appreciation for the genre’s history.

“I’m introducing myself properly now, but the journey is just getting started,” he says. “Blackboard was made from a place of love—for dancehall, for Jamaica, and for everyone who still believes in timeless music.”

“Blackboard” is now available on all major streaming platforms.
