Empowerment Through Music: El Shaddai's New Track

Updated: Jun 5

El Shaddai, also known as Dolly Don

Fast-rising recording artist El Shaddai, also known as Dolly Don, is making waves with her new track Priceless. This empowering anthem addresses themes of strength and self-worth. Produced by the talented Mario Cheef, the song is set to be released on May 24.

The Inspiration Behind Priceless

Priceless was inspired by moments when I’ve felt underestimated or taken for granted—whether in love, business, or life in general,” says El Shaddai. She continues, “I had to step into my confidence and realize that softness doesn’t equal weakness. This song is a bold statement that my worth can’t be measured or bought. It’s about self-love, inner strength, and owning your power. At its core, Priceless is a declaration of woman empowerment and a reminder to always stand on business.” Mario Cheef, who is also responsible for the song’s engineering and visuals, plays an integral role in bringing this vision to life.

El Shaddai's Background

El Shaddai, whose given name is Shada Barrett, grew up between Tivoli Gardens and Jungle in Kingston before moving to Waterford in Portmore, St Catherine. She has always had an interest in music and is currently based in Hartford, Connecticut.

One of her hopes for Priceless is that it will resonate with women around the globe as an anthem of empowerment.

The Vision for Priceless

“My ultimate hope is that Priceless inspires people—especially women—to recognize their worth and stop settling,” she explains. “I want it to resonate across the globe, lift spirits, and serve as a reminder that confidence, value, and self-respect are non-negotiable. I also want it to be that dancehall anthem that turns up every party, fashion show, and playlist it lands on.”

Past Collaborations and Future Projects

El Shaddai is not new to the music scene. She is known for tracks such as Tip and Repeat, featuring MC Nuffy. Additionally, she is set to release a collaboration with Lisa Hyper titled Drunk Off Love (DOL) on June 4.

“My mother was closely connected to the original Portmore Gaza movement back in Waterford,” El Shaddai shares. “She actually had me sing for Vybz Kartel when I was just 11. He gave me some really positive feedback. When Lisa Hyper found out my mother is Anngodbless, everything aligned naturally. I sent her a few songs, and she instantly gravitated toward Drunk Off Love (DOL). She came to the studio at 1:00 a.m., and within the hour, Mario Cheef had already recorded her verse. The vibe was authentic and effortless.”

Achievements and Career Trajectory

With a promising career ahead, El Shaddai has already made significant strides on the international scene.

“One of my proudest achievements is being part of the BET Awards Experience in Los Angeles for three consecutive years,” she states. “I was also featured in the prestigious African Achievements Awards with Mr. Davies Chirwa, who is the founder of Channel A TV. I’ve worked on projects with legends like Chuck Fenda. I’ve performed on stages before icons like Beres Hammond, Baby Cham, Valiant, and more—each experience shaping my journey and pushing me to go harder.”

Encouragement for Emerging Female Artists

As she rises in the industry, she encourages other emerging female artists to stay dedicated and authentic.

“Stay true to yourself,” El Shaddai advises. “While it’s natural to be inspired by others, never lose your originality. Enjoy the process and remember that music is an art—not just a business. Don’t let the pressure change you. Your uniqueness is your power, so protect it.”

Conclusion: The Power of Music

El Shaddai's Priceless is more than just a song; it’s a celebration of womanhood and empowerment. As she prepares for the release, her message of self-worth and confidence is clear. With her strong voice and authentic story, she’s positioning herself as a role model for many.

As her music continues to uplift and inspire, it proves that the art of self-expression can be a powerful tool for change. So mark your calendars for May 24 and get ready to embrace the vibe of Priceless!
