Son of Reggae Veteran Jah Mason Killed During TikTok Livestream

In a harrowing incident that underscores the perils of real-time social media engagement, Jamaican TikTok personality Jabari 'Baba Skeng' Johnson was fatally shot while livestreaming near Queenie’s Snack Shop on Red Hills Road, St. Andrew, on Monday.

Johnson, the son of renowned reggae artist Jah Mason, was broadcasting live on TikTok when a masked assailant approached and shot him in the back of the head. After Johnson collapsed, the gunman fired additional shots before fleeing the scene. The attack occurred in a public area, leaving bystanders in shock.

Jah Mason confirmed his son's death to the Jamaica Observer, expressing that he was still processing the tragic news with his family and could not provide further details at the time.

This incident marks the fourth high-profile killing of a Jamaican TikTok influencer in recent months. In December 2024, Xavier 'Niah Gang' Fogah was gunned down during a live TikTok session in St. Catherine. Similarly, Marlon '41 Busshead' Samuels was shot and killed in Montego Bay shortly after a live feed on Instagram.

Experts warn that the trend of livestreaming can inadvertently expose individuals to real-time threats. A Jamaican cyber forensics expert noted that criminals have been using social media platforms to monitor and locate targets, turning online visibility into a vulnerability .

Law enforcement agencies are investigating these incidents, emphasizing the need for caution among social media users. As the digital landscape evolves, the intersection of online presence and personal safety becomes increasingly complex, necessitating awareness and preventive measures.

The Jamaican social media community mourns the loss of Jabari 'Baba Skeng' Johnson, reflecting on the risks associated with the digital age and the importance of safeguarding oneself both online and offline.
