Popular music producer Richard ‘Shams’ Browne has added author to his list of accomplishments with the release of his new book, The Music Biz Manual: A Practical Guide For Independent Artists & Producers, which launched on January 23.

The self-published book is available via Amazon Kindle as an e-book, as well as in paperback on Amazon.com, and is designed to equip emerging artistes and producers with the tools needed to navigate the business side of music.

“I saw a lot of our artistes and producers lacking the information needed to build a solid business from their careers. This is something I wish I had when I was starting out,” Browne explained.

In addition to his work as a producer, Browne currently serves as an artiste and repertoire manager at VP Records. He is also a member of the influential Browne family, many of whom have played pivotal roles in shaping Jamaican music. His production credits include popular rhythms such as Orgasm and Baddis Ting.

His father, Glen Browne, is a highly respected bassist who has recorded with legendary acts including Burning Spear, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, and Buju Banton.

According to Browne, the book was a long time in the making.

“I started it three years ago, then put it on hold for a while. I picked it back up last October and completed it by mid-December. The foundation was already there; I just needed to finish it,” he shared.

With multiple number-one records and several industry awards under his belt, Browne says his sights are now set on achieving a Grammy Award and a Platinum plaque in the United States, having already earned one in Japan.

He is encouraging emerging Jamaican producers to take a more structured approach if they hope to achieve longevity in the industry.

“Learn the business and treat it like a business. Creating music is the easy part. Building a solid business structure takes knowledge and effort,” he said.

Looking ahead, Browne revealed that several music projects are in the pipeline for strategic release throughout 2026, including a throwback riddim, new singles, and a possible second, more detailed edition of The Music Biz Manual.
