Kingston Pirates Week Postponed Following the Aftermath of Hurricane Melissa

Kingston Pirates Week

The organizers of Kingston Pirates Week have announced the postponement of the 2025 staging of the highly anticipated cultural and tourism festival, following the widespread impact of Hurricane Melissa across the island. The festival, which was originally scheduled to take place from October 29 to November 2, 2025, has been delayed as Jamaica continues to recover from the storm’s devastating effects. A new date is currently being discussed with stakeholders, and official confirmation will be announced once it is finalized.

“The safety and well-being of our patrons, partners, and the Port Royal community remain our top priority,” said Peter Shoucair, JP, Executive Producer of Kingston Pirates Week. “While we are disappointed to postpone, we recognize the significant challenges many Jamaicans are facing in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. This is a time for compassion and solidarity.” In response to the disaster, the Kingston Pirates Week team has mobilized a relief drive to assist residents in Port Royal, one of the areas affected by flooding and wind damage. Donations of non-perishable food, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and necessities are being collected at Frica’s Shop, Nana Square, 7 Cagway Road, Port Royal.

Mr. Shoucair emphasized that this initiative reflects the spirit of unity that Kingston Pirates Week was built upon. “Port Royal has always represented resilience. Time and again, this community has weathered storms and rebuilt stronger each time,” he shared. “As organizers, we feel it’s our duty to give back and stand with the people who make this festival so special. Jamaica will rebuild—together.”

Organizers also extended sympathy to residents in St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, and other

parishes severely impacted by Hurricane Melissa, pledging continued support and collaboration with relief efforts across the island. While the festivities are postponed, the Kingston Pirates Week team remains committed to celebrating Jamaica’s maritime heritage, creativity, and community spirit once recovery efforts allow. “Kingston Pirates Week was designed to showcase the strength and culture of Jamaicans,” Shoucair added. “Even in adversity, that strength shines brighter than ever.”
